National Drowning Prevention, Awareness and Memorial day is October 4th every year and is run by Hannah’s Foundation to provide education and awareness to water tragedies that take over 300 lives in Australia every year. Many more people are injured by water accidents. By raising money to create awareness and education you can PUT YOUR HAND UP on National Drowning Prevention and Awareness Day and help save lives. Whether its beach, pool, home, farm or public water safety everyone has a responsibility to be safe around water. Over 35 children drown EVERY YEAR and nearly all are within the home, Farm Dam and back yard swimming pools. So this year RAISE YOUR HAND UP and Help Kids be Safer Around water and help Hannah’s Foundation raise funds for services in Education and Awareness programs and assist over 468 Families who have suffered loss or injuries to Water Tragedy.
National Day also commerates the anniversary of toddler Hannah Plint aged 34 months who drowned in an illegally built pool in Laidley in 2007. Her Parents Andrew and Kat formed Hannah’s Foundation to fight for justice, to advocate for Pool Safety Laws to be overhauled in Qld and most of all be the sounding board of Peer Support for so many families suffering drowning or child loss. On Hannah’s anniversary we encourage people to wear and Promote the colour Purple in memory of not only Hannah but for every person lost to Water Tragedy. Hannah’s is affectionately known as the Purple Princess. Hannah’s Foundation was founded in the heart of the Lockyer Valley and has been provided never ending Flood Recovery and Support Services to so many families including those who lost loved ones on January 10th, 2011.
